Job Overview: Assistant Simulation Technician

Job Location:

Butaro Campus, Burera District, Rwanda

Department:

Center for Transformative Learning Technologies (CTLT)

Reports To:

Simulation & Immersive Technologies Engineer

This is a full-time technical role supporting medical training activities.

What Does an Assistant Simulation Technician Do?

If you are new to simulation technology, here is a simple explanation:

Medical students use high-tech manikins and computer-based simulation systems to practice procedures safely. Your job is to ensure all this equipment works correctly before, during, and after training sessions.

Think of it as being the “IT support specialist” for a medical simulation lab.

Key Responsibilities (Explained Simply)

Simulation Lab Setup

  • Prepare training rooms
  • Connect cables and power systems
  • Test simulation manikins
  • Check cameras and microphones

Before each class, everything must be fully functional.

 Technical Support During Sessions

  • Run simulation software
  • Start and stop recordings
  • Help instructors with technical issues
  • Solve hardware and software problems quickly

Strong troubleshooting skills are important.

Equipment Maintenance

  • Perform routine equipment checks

Required Qualifications

Education

Bachelor’s degree in:

  • Biomedical Engineering
  • Computer Engineering
  • Information Technology
  • Or a related field

Experience (Preferred)

  • 1–2 years in a teaching lab or technical environment
  • Strong troubleshooting skills
  • Knowledge of Windows or Mac OS
  • Basic networking understanding

Fresh graduates with strong technical ability are encouraged to apply.
